Da Dao Ping is a poor, remote village in the Chinese Guangdong province. The 200 families find it difficult to grind the rice they grow, particularly during the rainy season, as the road to the nearest mill is long and impassable. The villagers’ general living conditions would improve significantly if the village had its own rice mill.
An earmarked gift of money from the Chinese sales company has made the erection of a mill possible, and the mill will be put into service shortly. Grundfos also supports the local school through sponsorship of a computer and other equipment.
Another village in the Guangdong province receives support from Grundfos in a similar three-year project, where villagers are given assistance to supplement their own efforts rather than pure gifts of money. Efforts are made to back up initiatives that can make the villagers self-sufficient with necessities of life by contributing equipment and know-how.
