We may not have had much sunshine to enjoy last summer, but we were all certainly cheered up by watching the events unfold at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
With so many athletes needing to be housed, an important part of the Games infrastructure was to deliver a fit-for-purpose Athletes Village. The completed village comprised of 11 plots, each of which provides four 10-storey buildings that became home to 17,000 athletes and officials during the games.
This included delivering the fire suppression systems that would provide the assurance that in the unlikely event of a fire, the buildings and the occupants will be protected by a robust system such as the Grundfos FireSAFE. These small compact and economical sets were developed by Grundfos to operate within both sprinkler and water-misting applications and are suitable in applications from 0-800 l/min where pressures of 1-18 bar are required.
Fortunately all aspects of the Olympics went off without a hitch and, although they were not needed, Grundfos provided the assurance of a fire service back-up team 24/7.
Any fire, especially in high-rise developments, can have devastating consequences. The Grundfos range of fire systems – including the Grundfos FireSAFE – will offer the right protection.
