A 5 star BIM performance from Grundfos

A 5 star BIM performance from Grundfos

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is a valuable tool for building services specialists that enables them to access a variety of information, including data relating to a building’s life cycle. Its value lies in the fact that it can provide a real-life simulation of all tasks related to design, construction, commission and operations.

Grundfos Pumps has invested time and effort in creating purpose built BIM assets from scratch to ensure that they do not contain unnecessary data.  This investment has proved worthwhile when they were advised they were the first supplier to be awarded 5 stars for the supply of 3D models and BIM data by GMS.

Formed in 1996, GMS are now a major supplier of commercial and industrial water heating products for the building services and process industries. They supply a wide portfolio of products to a diverse range of applications. This includes the recent supply of ten calorifier packages, that incorporate Grundfos pumps.  These will make up four different heat stations for a £150m project that is part of a new building extension to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

This project is a great example of BIM in practise where Grundfos and GMS worked together to deliver the best solution by using this intelligent 3D model-based process that has made a real difference to the efficient planning, design, construction, and management of building projects.
